Basic Program

FPMT Basic Program with Geshe Jampa Tharchin

The first subject, Stages of the Path was completed in 2019

We start the second BP subject in February 2020: The Tathagata Essence.

Teachings resume Wednesday 12 February 2020 at 7pm, discussion resumes Wednesday 19 February at 6:15pm

Chandrakirti will continue to offer the Basic Program - our ongoing 5 year study program designed by the Spiritual Director of Chandrakirti Centre, Lama Zopa Rinpoche. It offers a balanced approach, combining academic training and meditation practice.

For more information and Lama Zopa Rinpoche's vision for the Basic Program click here.

The Basic Program is especially suitable for students wishing to study in-depth, becoming familiar with some of Tibetan Buddhisms most treasured texts. While Discovering Buddhism is topic based and taught by senior Western students, and provides a good preparation for the BP with it’s overview of Tibetan Buddhism, in the Basic Program you study these themes in greater depth, over a prolongued period of time, and by means of traditional texts and commentaries.

The first subject, Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, using the famous Middle Length Lamrim by Lama Tsongkhapa was completed in 2019. In 2020 we will be continuing with The Tathagata Essence, the inspirational explanation of the buddha nature or buddha potential that is present in all beings. Our study is based on the renowned text by Maitreya and we will be using Gyaltsabe Je’s commentary. Students can enter the Basic Program at the start of this subject.

We will be studying 7pm -8.30pm on Monday evenings, with discussion from 6-7pm. Each subject includes homework and meditation assingments, a final test, and practice days with training options.

To receive an overview of the requirements for Chandrakirti Centre’s subject completion and formal certification for the program and to register, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Students can combine study of part of the BP at our centre with completing subjects at other FPMT centres where  the Basic Program is offered. BP online subject completion can also be included for program completion.

We have openings for work/study volunteers wishing to offer service and study in-depth. If you or anyone you know is interested to live at Chandrakirti and complete the Basic Program get in touch today!

Wisdom of Emptiness13

Queens Birthday Three Day Retreat

with resident teacher Geshe Jampa Tharchin

9am 30 May – 5pm 1 June

What is it about?

In the Perfection of Wisdom Sutras, the Buddha identified wisdom realizing emptiness as the means to cut through the ignorance. Without this understanding, we are bound into cyclical existence and stuck in our unenlightened state. While such stainless wisdom is said to be somewhat difficult to cultivate, masters of the Indian and Tibetan Madhyamika tradition, such as Nagarjuna, Chandrakirti, and Lama Tsongkhapa, have left us a treasure of insightful texts and commentaries to aid us in this process.

In this group meditation retreat, we will focus on the various techniques for contemplating the wisdom of emptiness, using the Wisdom Chapter of Lama Tsonghapa's Middle Length Lam Rim and guided meditations on emptiness.

This is an intermediate retreat so some exposure to Buddhist philosophy is recommend.

~~Friday night refresh session~~🎧🙌🏻

❤️With much love and happiness I wish to share with you all beautiful evenings of relaxation and rest 🧘‍♂️🙏🏻

Unwind from your work week and start the weekend right, feeling more energized refreshed and revitalized. We will a journey through sound and breath work in dynamic meditation to release the tension from the work week.

Caybin has spent the last 7 years I have been diving into the tools for coming back into balance with ourselves and the present moment. With the last 4 years practicing, teaching, sharing and healing abroad it is much love that I wish to share these teachings throughout New Zealand.

In an evening of relaxation we will be cultivating and using the tools such as;

> Light yoga sequence🧘🏻‍♀️🤸🏽‍♂️

>Breath-work awareness of breath🍃

>Deep relaxation sound bath 🎧🎼

One can allow their body often much needed relaxation to begin their weekend in the right way.

Through sound healing we connect to  various sound vibrations to re-calibrate, realign and refocus our body, heart and mind to aid in deeper relaxation and release of unwanted tension. Using the Tibetan method of sound healing with Singing Bowls, breath and concentration. All you need to do is come along, lay back and allow the sounds to wash over you and guide you back into the present moment.

The same way that we must tune our instrument before playing, to engage in life we must re-tune our system to play in harmony with daily life. Sound healing is becoming a popular tool for this re-tuning and has been used for centuries from various cultures as a way of emotional, mental and physical release.

Investment: $15 cash on the day
